About DrakNet

DrakNet is a mid-sized web hosting company that was founded by Jennifer Lepp in 1997 - though initially, we didn't have a name. Jen, who was working on a non-profit site, came up with the idea of selling hosting to support the site's fees so that more money could go into the non-profit's mission. Though the non-profit folded in 1997, Jen migrated the clients and formally named DrakNet in July of 1998 to better service their needs, and the company itself grew steadily from there.

Due to our origins, we have been one of the few hosting companies that has continually offered free hosting to non-profits and grass roots groups that seek to make the world a better place. At most times, DrakNet's commercial clients make up about 75% of the services clients, and non-profit clients utilizing steeply discounted or no charge accounts make up the other 25%. In furtherance of this progresive mission, we began purchasing solar energy through the Bonneville Environmental Foundation equal to the amount of energy utilized by our servers.

In 2006, DrakNet began licensing Soholaunch Pro for our clients so that non-technical clients had an advanced option easily utilized by even the newest "newbies" to web design. Due to Jen's involvement with the Soholaunch Community and steadfast belief in and familiarity with the product, we have become one of the single most recommended web hosting companies for consumers and business owners utilizing Soholaunch Pro for their web presence creation and maintenance.

In 2007, DrakNet expanded Soholaunch Pro free licenses to resellers and their clients as well, and many Soholaunch developers flocked to the service both to save money for their clients as well as to ensure that they had a host that understood their particular needs as developers. Though our client base utilizing all types of software to run their web sites has grown steadily, Soholaunch clients are the fastest growing segment of our client base, due largely in part to DrakNet's reputation as a solid Soholaunch host.

(And to address those folks who wanted servers but just didn't want to leave!) DrakNet chose HostNOC due to its recently updated connectivity and lower-end pricing, as well as its 24/7/365 Network Operations Center monitoring of all locations and machines.

Despite our growth in the "server" direction, our primary strength and focus continues to be with our core business - high quality shared hosting at a reasonable price.
